PERFORMANCE
POL AIR – FÖHNORCHESTER.
SCHAUBUEHNE LINDENFELS, BALLROOM

Eleven hairdryers stand in a semicircle on small metal posts of different heights around a black table. Above the table a black light and an orange coloured ice cube hang from the ceiling.

Around the installation eight loudspeakers stand in a circle with a diameter of about eight meters. The hairdryers begin to blow, the ice is melting. It begins to fluoresce and drips onto the black tabletop.

These drops are blown back and forth by the hairdryers and depending on their position create different rhythmic sounds and patterns that resonate from the eight loudspeakers. The hairdryers are released from their everyday connotation and transform into sound producing instruments.

In this piece Lilian Beidler deals with physical aspects of human existence such as air and water, warmth and coldness, inside and outside. She constructs on the level of sound the dualisms of composition and coincidence, polyphony and polyrhythm, analogical and electronically generated sounds.
